Cotswold Plough Hotel & Restaurant
The Cotswold Plough very much represents the ideal English countryside experience – both stylish and informal, with fine food, glowing log fires, quiet little nooks and a welcoming atmosphere, not the mention an extraordinary Gin Pantry’s selection of over 400 gins.
The 16th century Elizabethan building has been beautifully restored with all the historic character and personality intact. The eleven bedrooms are comfy and quiet with a home from home feel. All are fully equipped with Freeview TV and free Wi-Fi; Superior rooms are ideal for families and those looking for extra space and the Four Poster rooms add a touch of romance.
The Plough is well known as a bastion of the Oxfordshire culinary scene. This is relaxed country dining at its finest with first rate local and seasonal ingredients lovingly prepared. Produce is meticulously sourced from the finest local and coastal suppliers and the results are hearty, delicious and imaginative. In warm weather the restaurant spills out onto the front terrace and lawn for meals, coffee, tea and drinks shaded by huge umbrellas.
Drinking is a serious business here, as will become clear the instant you wander into the (in)famous Gin Pantry. Hundreds of varieties are on offer, and the level of gin connoisseurship and knowledge on display is unparalleled. The gin tasting sessions are highly recommend - you can even blend your own bottle of gin, and if you can’t find the perfect G&T here, you won’t find it anywhere.
The Plough is an ideal spot for settling into the gentle pace of Cotswold life – the owners want all their guests to enjoy themselves and soak up the marvellous atmosphere of this beautiful old house. Relax with Pimms and croquet on the lawn, or savour a tipple in front of one of the roaring log fires. Nearby is the best the Cotswolds have to offer, including the villages of Bampton (home to Downton Abbey) and Burton on the doorstep, lovely country walks, as well as Oxford, Blenheim, Bicester and a host of other attractions to explore.
