The Talbot Hotel has been in the Naylor-Leyland family since the 18th century and it's looking better than ever. Set in the market town of Malton on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, an army of skilled local craftsmen have used traditional building materials to preserve the authenticity of this 17th century hostelry while at the same time creating everything you would expect from a 21st century luxury hotel. The hotel is essentially a family business and has been owned by the Fitzwilliam Estate for over 300 years. Their intention has been to create a traditional country hotel - melding modern comforts with the time-honoured tenets of hospitality. The building itself has plenty of character, further enhanced by the newly restored period features. Interiors are elegantly styled and the luxurious bedrooms offer crisp luxury and up-to-the-minute bathrooms. Malton is well known as a destination for foodies, and The Talbot is far and away the best place to eat in town. Each dish is a superb showcase the very best produce that Yorkshire has to offer, including game from the Moors, seafood from coast, artisanal cheeses, rare breeds of pork and cattle, and the finest seasonal vegetables. The hotel is a 20 minute drive from York. Castle Howard, familiar to many as the fictional “Brideshead” is on the doorstep, whilst Malton is the gateway to the Yorkshire Wolds, Moors and Coast. There are also many opportunities for country pursuits and the hotel has a gun cabinet and drying room.
